Pleasantville High School cash out in stock market game

 

Submitted/Pleasantville High School Team Savages showed no mercy in the Spring New Jersey Stock Market game. The squad, comprised of Yaheed Fisher, Arnold Rice and Inique Hinton, took 30th place in the 788-team competition. PLEASANTVILLE _ When it comes to money, Pleasantville High School students rock, according to teacher Carla Block-Ropiecki.

Pleasantville High School sent 20 teams of students to participate in the Spring New Jersey Stock Market Game that included 788 groups of students. The contest ended April 18. Pleasantville’s army of teams didn’t disappoint, she said.

Phi Delta Kappa honors several during annual recognition brunch

The National Society of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc. will recognize four area adults and two area teens during its annual awards recognition brunch to be held early next month.

The event is at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 8 at the Clarion Hotel West and Convention Center, 6821 Black Horse Pike, Egg Harbor Township.

Eager to learn English in Pleasantville

Cristino Vasquez, who is the grandparent of Washington Avenue School third-grader Elvis Vasquez, has been spending four hours a day, three days a week learning English at the Pleasantville Public Schools' Parent Resource Center on Leeds Avenue. Vasquez, who emigrated from Honduras in 2012, received the Parent Resource Center’s Star Parent Award for April because of his efforts.

The hats have it in Pleasantville

Mittie DeShields, left, and Naomi Johnson were one of the first to arrive Friday, May 3 to the annual Seniors Spring Fling held at the Pleasantville Recreation Center. This year, seniors were encouraged to wear their favorite hat and Johnson was all to happy to wear hers. Dozens of seniors were treated to music by Nelson Geralds and good food. “It puts a smile on my face,” said Council President Judy Ward, who is chairperson of the Senior Citizen’s Advisory Committee.
