Free family films at Recreation Center

The Pleasantville Recreation Center is hosting a series of free family films during the month of February in its after-school classroom inside the center, located at 400 West Brighton Avenue. The films will be shown 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturdays Feb. 18 and 25. No pre-registration is needed. For information, call (609) 484-3608.

 

Fundraising expo at PleasanTech Charter School

The PleasanTech Academy Charter School will be holding a multicultural event to benefit the school 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17 at Pleasantville High School. The event will feature student performances, vendors and food. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children 14 years and under.  Council sets its meeting schedule

The City Council of Pleasantville has announced its meeting schedule for 2012. All work and regular meetings will be held on Mondays unless otherwise noted in the courtroom of the Police Complex. Work meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. with regular meetings immediately after. The meeting dates are: Feb. 22 (Wednesday), March 5, March 19, April 2, April 16, May 7, May 21, June 4, June 18, July 2, July 16, Aug. 6, Aug. 20, Sept. 5 (Wednesday), Sept. 17, Oct. 1, Oct. 15, Nov. 5, Nov. 19, Dec. 3 and Dec. 17.

 

Tennis classes starting

The Pleasantville Recreation Department’s Tennis Club is offering classes to children ages 7 and up at the recreation center, 400 W. Brighton Ave. Classes are from 12 noon to 3 p.m. beginning on Saturday, Feb. 25. Registration is $10. Children must present a birth certificate. For information call (609) 484-3608.

 

Volunteers wanted for community forum

The Step Up program is seeking volunteers to assist with a panel discussion to be held in April titled “The State of the Black Community.” Anyone interested in helping with this panel discussion can call (609) 743-2874.

 

New girls club forming

A new club called Princess Inc. is looking for young women ages 13-22 who are interested in joining. Designed as an empowerment and self-awareness organization, the club will offer girls a chance to discuss important topics and attend interesting workshops. Black History basketball tournament

The Pleasantville Recreation Center is having signups for boys and girls ages 10 through 15 to participate in a Black History basketball tournament. Players ages 10 to 12 will play games at noon Saturdays. Players ages 13 to 15 will play games at 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. The cost is $25 per player or $250 per team. League play is under way, but players can still register by calling Sterling Duncan at (609) 484-3608.

 

Basketball training starts March 16

Pleasantville Recreation girls basketball training for girls in eighth grade and higher will be held 4-5:45 p.m. Fridays, starting March 16. Cost is $10 per player. Call (609) 484-3608.

Performing Arts Club for kids

Children 10 to 18 who are interested in becoming dancers, singers or actors are encouraged to join the All S.T.A.R. Performing Arts Club at the Pleasantville Recreation Center. The group meets every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 3:30- 5:30 p.m. at the center located at 400 W. Brighton Avenue. Registration is $10. For information, call (609) 484-3608.

 

Dance program

Registration is being accepted for the Move UR Feet Dance Program at the Pleasantville Recreation Center, 400 W. Brighton Ave. Registration fee is $10. The classes, taught by Pattie Harris, are open to boys and girls ages 5-17. Classes will be held 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturdays. For information call (609) 484-3608 or visit the center.
