PLEASANTVILLE – Students in the Pleasantville High School DECA Club are preparing for a county competition that will be held at the school Monday, Jan. 30.

Team members Quintayva Ragland, Lilian Lopez, Keith Spence, Jean Pepe and Camill Mc Code plan to give Oakcrest High School, Cedar Creek High School and Absegami High School students a run for the top spot in the county level of the Consumer Bowl competition.

The four local high schools will compete against one another 9 a.m. in the auditorium of Pleasantville High School. The winner of the county competition will advance to regional and then possibly state level competitions.

Carla Block-Ropiecki and Cathy Stanley, both teachers in the business and technology department at PHS, said they are excited about the opportunity to host and compete in the competition.

The New Jersey High School Consumer Bowl is a competition established in 1997 to educate young adults on consumer issues. Schools participate free of charge, and study materials and study links are provided on the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs website, www.njconsumeraffairs.gov.

All participating students receive certificates of achievement. Winners at the county and regional level receive trophies. First-, second- and third-place winners at the state level receive medals and U.S. Savings Bonds.
