Monteith named employee of the month

Shore Medical Center has named respiratory care practitioner Donna Monteith of Absecon its January employee of the month.

Monteith joined Shore Medical Center as a secretary in the respiratory care department in July, 1984 while she was still a student at Ocean City High School. After graduating from the respiratory therapy program at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and completing her registry requirements in 1993, she moved into her role as a respiratory therapist.

Director of Respiratory Care Services Sylvia Simmons nominated Monteith for her dedication and compassion.

“On October 6, 2011, Donna’s manager walked into the department to find several bunches of beautiful flowers,” Simmons said. “When asked what they were for, Donna explained there was a patient who was discharged to Absecon Manor and was unable to take the flowers with her. The patient really wanted the flowers, and Donna, who lives in Absecon, was going to take the flowers to the patient later that day.”

Simmons said that simple act of kindness speaks volumes about Monteith’s sensitivity to our patients’ needs.

Monteith has two sons, Adam and Evan.
