ABSECON – Five local women will be inducted into the Atlantic County Women’s Hall of Fame at a ceremony 7 p.m. Thursday, March 22 at the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City.

The 2012 honorees are June G. Sheridan and Barbara Clark, both of Egg Harbor Township; Donna L. Haye of Hamilton Township; Arlene G. Groch of Northfield; and Maria K. Mento of Ventnor.

The induction honors “extraordinary women who have made significant contributions to the Atlantic County community,” according to Hall of Fame President Anne Campbell.

Sheridan is being honored for social services and volunteerism, Clark and Haye for education, Groch for law, and Mento for law and public service.

“Honorees are selected based on their lasting contributions in many areas, including arts and entertainment, athletics, business, education, government and public service, journalism and media, law, medicine and health, philanthropy, science, social services and volunteerism,” Campbell said. “They are women who have made outstanding achievements in their professional fields, in community efforts or to women’s and girls’ causes.”

The mission of the Atlantic County Women’s Hall of Fame is to improve the quality of life for women, families and children in Atlantic County. The nonprofit volunteer organization was founded in 1969 by Jacqueline McBride to recognize Atlantic County women who are pioneers in their field or in projects that benefit the community, who serve or have served as role models to other Atlantic County women, or who have championed women’s issues.

Some 135 women have received the honor.

Tickets to the induction are $65. To purchase tickets call (609) 645-3800.
