PLEASANTVILLE – Mayor Jesse L. Tweedle announced a new initiative to reduce speeding here. He said it will be enforced by the Pleasantville Police Department and involve a three-prong approach to the problem of speeding on residential streets: education, engineering and enforcement.

Message boards and mobile radar trailers will be placed on streets throughout the city. Each area will be examined for potential speed-reducing tactics including signage, lane markings and more.

Officers and residents have identified several geographic locations that have seen a large number of violations and citizen complaints of speeding, the mayor said. These are the areas where police will focus their enforcement efforts by stopping violators and issuing summonses.

The main geographic locations currently on the list are Reading Avenue between New Road and Linden Avenue, Linden Avenue between Delilah Road and Woodland Avenue, Church Street between Mainland Manor and Doughty Road, Clematis Avenue between Park and Ridgewood avenues, Cresson Avenue between Northfield and New Road, Garfield Avenue between Tilton and Mainland avenues, Tilton Avenue between New Road and Broad Street, Tremont Avenue between New Road and Broad Street, Broad Street between Park and Tilton avenues, and Woodland Avenue between First Street and New Road.

All city streets will continue to receive attention, Tweedle said.
