ABSECON – The Absecon Police Department is investigating a robbery attempt at the Home Depot that occurred 11:20 a.m. Saturday, July 21.

Police said a white male entered the store through the garden department entrance, walked to the electrical section and grabbed a spool of electrical wire. He then attempted to leave without paying for item.

Store security and the suspect became involved in a “physical altercation” when he attempted to exit back through the garden department, police said.

The suspect broke free from security and ran through the parking lot, across Absecon Boulevard and headed west. Store employees lost sight of him near Wynnewood Drive as he continued to run west.

Police checked the area and were unable to locate the suspect.

Witnesses described him as 5 feet 10 inches tall, 190 to 200 pounds, wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and a dark color baseball hat.

The suspect arrived at the store in a dark color, older model hatchback, police said.

Anyone who saw incident or the witnessed the suspect running away is asked to contact the Absecon Police Department at (609) 641-0667, ext. 215, 217 or contact the Atlantic County Crime Stoppers at (609) 652-1234 or (800) 658-TIPS (8477).
