Man shot to death in Pleasantville

PLEASANTVILLE – A Philadelphia man was shot to death here at about 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, according to acting Atlantic County Prosecutor James P. McClain.

The victim, Jamaal K. Hill, 29, of Bouvier Street, was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds and lying in the street on the 900 block of West Ashland Avenue by police responding to a 911 call of shots fired. The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit also responded.

The Major Crimes Unit and the Pleasantville Police Department are investigating the homicide, McClain said.

No arrests had been made as of Thursday morning.

The shooting death is the fifth in the past year in Pleasantville, according to the prosecutor’s office.

All of the murders have been people who lived outside Pleasantville.

Steven Gurrs Jr., 28, of Somers Point was shot while sitting in a car on Atlantic Avenue on Christmas Eve. He died shortly after at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center.

On Jan. 20, John Soto, 32, of Absecon, and Dometrio Rodriguez, 27, of Atlantic City were shot and killed on the 800 block of Woodland Avenue and near the intersection of Somerset and Spruce avenues.

On Sept. 24, Willie Hogans Jr., 42, of Atlantic City was shot and killed on the 100 block of East Lindley Avenue, according to the prosecutor’s office.
