Sandy posts impressive wind speeds, rain totals

New Jersey residents are suffering from near hurricane force winds and tropical rainfall totals even hours before Hurricane Sandy is predicted to make landfall. As of noon, Monday, Oct. 29, the highest wind gust was a 69-mph burst recorded at Harvey Cedars in Ocean County.

Other top gusts included those reported in Sea Girt (55 mph), Atlantic City Marina (50 mph).

West Cape May residents have experienced 4.35 inches of rain since the start of the storm on Sunday afternoon. The Atlantic City Marina has recorded 4.30 inches of rain. Other area totals include Woodbine (3.7 inches) and Egg Harbor Township (3.35 inches).

Hurricane Sandy is forecast to come ashore during the evening hours of Monday, Oct. 29.
