ABSECON – A Pleasantville man was arrested Sunday and charged with obstruction and several motor vehicle offenses after leaving the scene of an accident, according to police.

Police said Ramon Quintanilla, 29, was involved in a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident at 12:01 a.m. Sunday in the westbound lanes of Rout 30 near Turner Avenue.

Police said 911 callers reported that a beige Toyota 4Runner traveling at a high rate of speed struck a 2005 Hyundai Elantra. The collision launched the Hyundai off the roadway before it overturned and landed in the nearby marsh.

Police said the Hyundai was driven by a 28-year-old woman from Cranbury but did not provide her name. She was treated at the scene and transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s Mainland Campus for additional care.

Witnesses told police they saw a man leave the Toyota and run away, according to reports.

Police become suspicious when Quintanilla later attempted to report his vehicle stolen from his residence.

After an investigation by Ptl. Christian Cavileer, Absecon police said they determined Quintanilla was driving the Toyota at the time of the accident.

The Absecon City Volunteer Fire Department assisted with the crash.
