Pleasantville man shot, killed behind South Main Street bar

PLEASANTVILLE _ A city man was shot and killed Monday, Dec. 3 in a parking lot behind a downtown South Main Street bar, according to acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain.

Police discovered the body of Chikki Smith, 33, in the lot behind Sam’s Rialto Bar and Grill, 18 S. Main St. when they arrived to investigate reports of gunshots fired near Main Street.

Smith died from multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit also responded to the scene and the victim’s next of kin have been notified.

No arrests have been made as of noon, Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Smith served 8 years, 3 months and 20 days for one count of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury and one count of robbery, according to the New Jersey Department of Corrections website.

He was released on Christmas Day, 2011.
