ABSECON – The developer of the stalled downtown Absecon Gardens housing complex has postponed the public hearing that was scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6 at City Hall.

Boardwalk Development and Design requested the delay because it was unable to produce the visual displays it needed to show to City Council and the public, according to city administrator Terry Dolan.

No new time has been set, but officials hope the public hearing can be rescheduled for council’s next meeting 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, Dolan said.

The canceled meeting was to have included a public hearing on a proposed redeveloper’s agreement between the city and Boardwalk Development and Design to finish the work at the Absecon Gardens project on New Jersey Avenue.

The 26-page proposed agreement can be viewed at  Absecon-Newjersey.org under the “meeting notices” section.

The agreement would limit the project to 58 units, a reduction of 16 units from the previously approved 74 units. There would be 121 parking spaces provided on the property.

The agreement also allows for the removal of 55-and-older age restriction on the property.
