Pleasantville's Mays to receive Atlantic County MLK award

Atlantic County will bestow its Martin Luther King Award on Perry Mays of Pleasantville 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18 at the 26th annual ceremony to honor the life and legacy of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

The event will be held at the county office building at 1333 Atlantic Ave. in Atlantic City.

Mays is the chairman of Stop the Violence in Atlantic County and the former director of Community Partnerships for Health Engagement for AtlantiCare. He is also past director of Atlantic County Weed and Seed, an organization that strives to help residents take back their communities by weeding out bad elements.

The keynote address will be presented by Rev. John Howard, pastor of New Baptist Church in Atlantic City, founder of the John Howard Gospel caravan, and a past county MLK award recipient.
