UPDATE: Police release name of clubbing victim
PLEASANTVILLE _ A 66-year-old Pleasantville man, who was clubbed with a 2-by-4 piece of lumber, remains in critical condition in an area hospital, according to acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain.
The man has been identified as Paul J. Madara, 66, of Pleasantville. Police had witheld his name until his relatives could be notified.
The man was discovered by Pleasantville police officers shortly after 8 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 28 in a residence on the 600 block of Doughty Road.
The man was transported to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus, where he remains in critical condition, McClain said.
Pleasantville police found the man when they answered a 911 call report of a man who was injured during a physical altercation.
Pleasantville police arrested Joseph McCarten, 51, also of Pleasantville and charged him with second-degree aggravated assault and weapons offenses, McClain said.
The charges allege that McCarten repeatedly struck the man in the head with a 2-by-4 piece of lumber.
McCarten is to be lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility, McCarten said. Bail has been set at $35,000 with no cash option.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Pleasantville Police Department is investigating the incident.
