PLEASANTVILLE - The 66-year-old Pleasantville man, who was severely beaten with a 2x4 piece of lumber last month, has died of his injuries.
A graveside service will be held for Paul J. Madara, 66, at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Atlantic City Cemetery in Pleasantville.
Madara is survived by his wife, Phyllis; a son, Jason, and several other relatives. Madara was predeceased by his parents, William and Laura Madara and his brothers: Bill, Charlie and Tommy.
Madara died Sept. 14 of the injuries suffered in the Aug. 28 attack.
According to acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain, Madara was injured during a physical altercation with Joseph McCarten, 51, also of Pleasantville.
The attack occurred at 8 p.m. Aug. 28 in a residence located on the 600 block of Doughty Road in Pleasantville, McClain said.
When Pleasantville police arrived, they discovered Madera was suffering from serious injuries. He was immediately taken to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s Atlantic City trauma unit.
Police charged McCarten with second-degree aggravated assault and weapons offenses.
Police allege McCarten repeatedly struck Madara with a 2x4 piece of lumber during the attack, McClain said.
