ABSECON – Lawyers representing Boardwalk Development and Design Company LLC will appear before the Absecon Planning Board Oct. 22 seeking final approvals to restart the long-stalled Absecon Gardens downtown housing project.
Specifically, Boardwalk Development of Ventnor is seeking final site plan approval after receiving preliminary conditional approval during a meeting held before the Absecon Planning Board Aug. 27.
The Absecon Gardens project is located at the site of the old H. Ashton Marsh School complex bordered by New Jersey Avenue, School Street, Mechanic Street and West Church Street.
Boardwalk is also seeking any and all variances it may need to develop a 58-unit residential complex on the property.
Boardwalk Attorney Richard F. DeLucry of Cooper Levenson April Niedelman & Wagenheim, P.A., will present the case at a meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22 in Absecon City Council Chambers, 500 Mill Road.
The public will be allowed to comment at the meeting.
Boardwalk’s application and other documents are available for public inspection during normal business hours in the Office of the Planning and Zoning Board secretary in the Municipal Complex.
About 10 years ago, city leaders envisioned Absecon Gardens as a 55-plus age-restricted development that would help revitalize Absecon's business district.
However, the 2008-2009 collapse of the senior housing market forced project officials to seek relief from the age restriction, and ultimately the project was opened up to all ages.
A resident-led court challenge failed earlier this year, allowing Boardwalk Development to move forward with Absecon Gardens.
