PLEASANTVILLE - A fugitive rammed a Pleasantville Police Department patrol vehicle early Monday evening, injuring the officer inside, according to a statement issued by Pleasantville Police Capt. Sean Riggin.
Yaqin Muhammad, 27, of Pleasantville had been spotted by Pleasantville patrol officers after they received a tip of a wanted man in the area of the Cedar Market near Collins Avenue and Main Street.
When Pleasantville police officers confronted Muhammad, he attempted to flee in a friend’s 2008 Nissan Altima, police said. According to reports, when Muhammad realized he was unable to drive around their patrol vehicles, Muhammad began repeatedly ramming the Nissan Altima into a Chevrolet Tahoe operated by Patrolman Ed Cressey, injuring the officer.
Cressey’s injuries were not serious, Riggin said.
Pleasantville police officers arrested Muhammad, and he was transported to police headquarters for processing. He was charged with aggravated assault, assault by auto and resisting arrest.
Judge Howard Freed set bail at $35,000 cash.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Pleasantville Police Department at (609) 641-6100 or Crime Stoppers.
