PLEASANTVILLE - An alert city police officer noticed and stopped a suspicious vehicle and recovered a stolen handgun loaded with illegal ammunition and a high-capacity magazine, according to a release issued by Pleasantville Capt. Sean Riggin.

Pleasantville Lt. Matt Hartman noticed a suspicious vehicle at about 10 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 23 while he patrolled near West Ridgewood Avenue, Riggin said.

The West Ridgewood Avenue area has been the seen of multiple recent incidents and investigations, Riggin said.

Hartman used his observation to develop reasonable cause for a motor vehicle stop.

During the course of the stop, Hatman observed a 9mm Glock 19 semi-automatic handgun that was loaded with prohibited hollow point ammunition in a prohibited high-capacity magazine.

Riggin said a NCIC check of the weapon determined it was stolen.

Four arrested

Police arrested Robert Handy, 18, the driver, and Samir Dugan, 18, a passenger along with two juveniles during the stop, Riggin said. All are Pleasantville residents.

Handy and Dugan are jailed on $30,000 bail imposed by the Hon. R. Fauntleroy in the Atlantic County Jail in Mays Landing.

The juveniles, 15, and 17, were lodged in the Haborfields Juvenile Detention Center in Egg Harbor City.

The investigation is continuing.
