Atlantic City man struck, killed while crossing White Horse Pike

ABSECON  An Atlantic City man died early Sunday evening after he was struck by a vehicle while attempting to run across the White Horse Pike, according to a statement issued by Ptl. Christian F. Cavileer of the Absecon Police Department.

The man, 57, who was unidentified by police, apparently ran in front of traffic while attempting to cross the White Horse Pike near Haddon Avenue, Cavileer said.

Haddon Avenue is adjacent to the Marketplace at Absecon shopping complex and across the White Horse Pike from several hotels.

Officials pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Absecon Emergency Medical Services personnel transported the unidentified driver, 18, of Galloway to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Mainland Campus for treatment.
Police closed White Horse Pike eastbound traffic for two hours to clear the scene and investigate the incident.

The Galloway and Absecon fire departments along with state Department of Transportation personnel helped with traffic control.

Cavileer is the investigating officer.
