PLEASANTVILLE – Three local teenagers died from injuries suffered in a violent Memorial Day accident between the car they were riding in and a New Jersey Transit bus.

Tevin Campbell, 18, of Absecon, and Kira Strider, 14, of Pleasantville died at the scene, acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain said.

A third victim, Amber Gernandez, 16, of Pleasantville died in the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center City Campus Intensive Care Unit 12:08 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, McClain said.

They were passengers in a car driven by Melissa Rodriguez, 18, of Pleasantville, he said.

Rodriguez and a fourth passenger were transported to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Atlantic City Campus for treatment, McClain said.

The accident occurred 1:49 p.m. Monday, May 26 when a compact car driven by Rodriguez was headed north on Franklin Boulevard. The vehicle crossed the center line and struck a bus headed in the opposite direction in the southbound lane, McClain said.

The bus driver, Carmen Mazzagatti Jr., 69, of Galloway and several of his eight passengers were hospitalized for treatment of their injuries, McClain said.

Several emergency departments from across Atlantic County responded to render aid. They included Pleasantville Fire and Rescue, AtlantiCare Medical Services, Absecon EMS, Absecon Fire Department, Northfield EMS, Shore Medical Center EMS, Galloway EMS, Longport EMS, and Hamilton Township EMS.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Collisions Unit and the Pleasantville Police Department are investigating the accident.
