Eight Sundays of music, fun in Absecon

ABSECON - City officials have announced the city’s 2014 Concerts in the Park schedule which begins later this month and runs through mid-August.

Weekly concerts begin at 7 p.m. Sundays starting June 22 and lasting until Sunday, Aug. 10. All concerts are free and take place in Heritage Park along Ambassador Drive in Absecon.  Food is available at the park’s concession stand and residents are reminded to bring a blanket or chair to sit on.

The musical group Lighthouse begins the Concerts in the Park season, featuring oldies, swing and pop.

Decca recording stars, The Sweetwater Band, follows on June 29. The group will perform songs that range from the 1930s to the 21st century.

The Juicy Band caps of the Independence Day weekend with a July 6 performance. The band has played for four years at the Tropicana Casino and features Top-40, oldies, party rock and Classic Rock songs.

T.K. and the Howlers come to Absecon on July 13 and will perform the Blues.

The Delaware Valley’s premier Beatles Tribute Band, The Rubber Souls Band follows on July 20.

Absecon native Danny Eyer, who has opened for Tim McGraw and Brooks and Dunn, will round out July’s portion of the concert schedule with a show on July 27.

Suite Inspiration performs Doo Wop and Oldies on Aug. 3.

Mike Crosson and Friends will perform an evening of acoustic music on Aug. 10 to round out the Concerts in the Park schedule for the year.

Concerts in the Park are sponsored by the Absecon Public Library, Absecon Parks and Playground Committee, Pete Higbee, chairman; Absecon American Legion Post No. 28, Chip Higbee, commander; Absecon City Council, Chris Seher, president, Mayor John Armstrong and City Administrator Tom Henshaw.
