ABSECON - The Absecon Police Department is warning residents that it has received several complaints of unregistered door-to-door solicitors who are attempting to sell items or obtain donations.

“The Police Department would like to remind our residents that sometimes this activity can lead to burglary, robbery, and or thefts,” Ptl. Christian F. Cavileer said in a release.

The soliciting has been for a number of products from home remodeling, to the sale of meats, and requesting donations for a for-profit military care package group, he said.

“As per city ordinance all subjects attempting to solicit for sales, donations, or for charitable organizations are required to have a permit issued by the City of Absecon,” he said.  “To obtain a permit an application has to be filed with the City Clerk’s office and a background check of each subject is conducted by the police department. Each permit is to be carried on the solicitor’s person and must show a photograph of the solicitor as well as their name, address, company name, and the issue date.”

Anyone who encounters this activity or other suspicious activity should call the Absecon Police Department at 609-641-0667 for all nonlife threatening emergencies and 9-1-1 for all life-threatening emergencies.
