2 Absecon men charged in 3-week burglary spree

Absecon police detectives arrested Jack Kalman, 49, and Arthur Schellinger III, 53, both of Absecon on Monday, Sept. 1 and charged them with several crimes, according to a news release issued by Det. Sgt. J. Lee.

They were charged in connection with burglaries that occurred Aug. 2, 8 and 24 at the Sunoco Gas and Minimart, 471 White Horse Pike, Lee said.

In each burglary, thieves forced their way into the building before taking cash and large amounts of nicotine products, Lee said.

Police used surveillance video and evidence recovered at the scene to identify, arrest and charge Kalman and Schellinger.

Kalman was charged with two counts of burglary, two counts of conspiracy and two counts of theft. Bail was set at $30,000 cash. Schellinger was charged with three counts of burglary, two counts of conspiracy and three counts of theft. Bail was set at $50,000 cash.

Both men were jailed at the Atlantic County Justice Facility in Mays Landing.

Absecon detectives continue to investigate several other area burglaries, Lee said.

Det. Leigh Gadd Jr. and Lee handled the Minimart investigation.
