To the editor:
Instead of government investing in Solyndra-type energy solutions, energy research should be concentrated on the cleanest energy of all fossil fuels, nuclear energy. Perhaps cold fusion can solve the problem of storing unspent fuel rods virtually forever, while safety problems like the occurrences at
It does not appear that solar and wind power will ever become economically viable. Clean nuclear power should be the target as the replacement for fossil fuels.
Meanwhile for jobs, the economy and safety of the country from warring OPEC tribes and countries, domestic oil drilling should be expanded with a royalty charge of each barrel going toward research of clean, safe, cheap nuclear energy. Solar and wind energy is prohibitively expensive, causing jobs and the economy to suffer.
Before oil resources dry up, nuclear, hydrogen or other abundant resources can generate all the energy needed at low cost to the environment and people. There are some nuclear power units on the drawing boards that would fit in a large truck trailer, a boon to small cities and localities.
Forbes’ December 2011 issue reports that “Rossi’s Energy Catalyzer or ‘E-Cat’ system is a Low Energy Nuclear Reaction (LENR) or “cold fusion” device that generates large amounts of heat for a miniscule cost. Should Rossi Focardi’s E-Cat work as claimed, it will transform the world, making oil, coal, and conventional nuclear power along with wind and solar power obsolete as energy sources.”

It is difficult to ascertain how much of cold fusion is fact or fiction but in the meantime, energy should be pursued as an “all of the above” option: oil, gas, coal, nuclear, wind, solar, and what have you.
