Seth Grossman, former Current and Gazette columnist, announces bid for governor

SOMERS POINT – Seth Grossman, a former Atlantic City councilman and Atlantic County freeholder, announced tonight (Friday, Feb. 8) that he intends to run for governor in the June 4 Republican primary against incumbent Republican Gov. Chris Christie.

The Somers Point attorney and former columnist for The Current and Gazette Newspapers said he intends to formally announce his plans Tuesday morning in front of the Revel Casino in Atlantic City.

“Governor Christie’s bailout Republicans are as bad as big-union Democrats like former Governor Jon Corzine and Senate President Steve Sweeney,” Grossman said in a news release. “They are smothering the New Jersey economy with high taxes and debt.

“If Christie has a 70 percent approval rating, it means most voters know what he is saying, but don’t have a clue as to what he is doing,” he said.

His announcement is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12 in front of Baba Jones Market at 204 S. Rhode Island Ave. in Atlantic City.

“The market is in the shadow of the new, but financially troubled Revel Casino, which received roughly $400 million in state and local tax abatements and subsidies,” said Grossman, who is familiar locally as the voice of the libertarian organization Liberty and Prosperity.

He plans a second event 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, in front of the Mega Pizza Luncheonette at 596 Market St. in Newark.
