Saturday was the deadline to qualify for the NJSIAA basketball tournament.

A power point system, similar to what is used in football and soccer, determines how the 16 teams in each sectional group are seeded. And the rating will also decide which teams below .500 are added to the brackets to reach 16 teams.

Only a team’s first 16 games played before the end of the day on Saturday (Feb. 2) are considered in determining the team’s rating. Some teams did not play 16 games, adversely affecting their ratings. The pairings for the 2013 tournament will not actually be finalized until Thursday but, according to the power ratings, the lineup shows that three CAL teams are seeded No. 1.

In Group 4 boys, Atlantic City is the No. 1 seed and will open at home against Absegami, its same first round opponent from last year. Egg Harbor Township is the No. 10 seed and will open at Triton. Millville, Mainland and Vineland did not qualify.
