The Atlantic City High School girls swimming team lost to Cherry Hill East, 93-77, in the NJSIAA South Jersey Public A Final Thursday, Feb. 14, at Gloucester Institute of Technology.
The second-seeded Vikings started strong, winning the first eight events including a school record in the 200-yard freestyle relay. But the top-seeded Cougars (13-0) pulled away by dominating the last three events for their second straight sectional title.
Colleen Callahan, Melissa Toy and freshman Amber Glenn were double winners for the Vikings (12-1). That trio was joined by senior Ayana Cox for the 200 freestyle relay, which swam a school record time of 1:40.35. The previous record of 1:43.57 was set by Cox, Dominique Voso, Callahan and Toy just last month.
Toy, a senior who is headed to Towson University next fall, broke her own school record in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.92. Callahan, who will swim at the University of Tennessee, won the 200 individual medley in 2:08.0 and the 100 butterfly in 58.81.
