Late bucket by Lewis lifts Spartans in CAL title game

POMONA – Gina Lewis sank a short jump shot from the top of the lane with 2.1 seconds remaining to lift the Holy Spirit High School girls basketball team to victory in the Cape-Atlantic League championship game Saturday afternoon at Richard Stockton College.
Lewis took a feed from Val Garofalo and calmly knocked down the shot to give the Spartans a 39-38 win over Sacred Heart.
Holy Spirit (20-5) overcame an eight-point fourth-quarter deficit to win its first CAL girls title since 2006. Sacred Heart (19-7) was seeking its second straight CAL championship.
