Three CAL girls teams remain in hunt for state titles

The Cape-Atlantic League girls teams put up a good fight, for the most part, but only three remain after last week, and it is a tough stretch to imagine two of the three will be moving past the sectional finals.
Millville and Holy Spirit were both eliminated – Millville in a first-round upset, and Holy Spirit by a very good St. John Vianney team.

The Lady Thunderbolts will have junior Lexi Bruno returning next year. She was not eligible at the start of this season, and it was an uphill battle after the rough start they had.

The Lady Spartans got past Pingry as expected in the first round, and played Vianney to a 17-17 first quarter tie. From there, Vianney essentially put the game away, allowing just 24 points. A good season by both teams but short of the intended goals.

Ocean City, a No. 1 seed in Group III, will take on Timber Creek, the sixth seed, on Monday, and with TC pulling two upsets, the Lady Red raiders will have to be wary. Should they win the Sectional Final, a date with the Point Pleasant Boro/Neptune winner awaits in the State semifinals. Both of those teams are excellent and will give Ocean City all they can handle, but at this time of the year, nothing less is to be expected.

Sacred Heart in Non-Public B and Middle Township both have to be considered strong underdogs. The Lady Lions face No. 2 seed Gill St. Bernard’s, and Middle takes on No. 1 Willingboro.

All-Star Consideration: All of these players will have to be considered for All-Star Consideration in one form or another. Their numbers and how they directly affected their team’s play will be taken into account.Cedar Creek:
