Three Jersey Shore Diamond Crush traveling softball teams, which include players mostly from Cape May and Atlantic counties, competed in various tournaments last weekend, with two Diamond Crush teams winning championships.

Already having won the 2014 USSSA New Jersey state championship earlier this summer, the Jersey Shore Diamond Crush 18U Elite captured the title at the 20-team Eastern Pennsylvania USSSA July Summer Hustle tournament in Bath, Pa., last weekend. The team went undefeated in seven games at the two-day event.

After Saturday’s three-game pool play, the team was 3-0 and seeded third going into Sunday's single elimination round.

On Sunday morning, the Diamond Crush beat the North Jersey Spirit 8-0, a team they had only beaten 3-2 in their first game on Saturday. Next, the club found itself down 5-0 but got back into the game on a three-run home run by Sam Leipe (Oakcrest) that led to a 9-7 victory. Jackie DeLong (Wildwood Catholic) and Maddie Taggart (Atlantic City) combined for the pitching win.

The team went on to play the Deleware Fillies in game three on Sunday, and also came from behind in this game, winning 5-2.

The championship game was the fourth game in a row on Sunday for the team and against top-seeded PA Alley Cats Showcase. The Alley Cats went up 3-0 on JSDC in the first two innings. DeLong, however, blanked the Alley Cats from there and the Diamond Crush rallied for four runs in the third inning, highlighted by a three-run homer by Brooke Hallet (Holy Spirit) and an RBI double by Victoria Raffaele (Middle Township). Neither team scored the rest of the way and the Diamond Crush posted a 4-3 victory to win the title.

The team scored 46 runs and allowed only 19 over seven games throughout the weekend.

The Diamond Crush got strong infield play throughout from Alyssa Discepola (Middle Township) at catcher, Chelsea Bright (Middle Township, Penn State Berks) at shortstop, Jenna Long (Wildwood Catholic, Salisbury) at first base and Raffaele at second base.
