vogelei Zack Vogelei, one of the top football players in the Cape-Atlantic League, has made his college choice.

The Middle Township High School two-way starter has given a verbal commitment to attend Towson University, a Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) and Colonial Athletic Association school.

A four-year starter, Vogelei led the Panthers to a South Jersey Group II playoff berth and a 6-4 record last fall. He rushed 93 times for 693 yards (7.5 yards per carry) and scored 10 touchdowns as a fullback. Defensively, the middle linebacker led the team in tackles with 103 and also recorded four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, three sacks and an interception.

Vogelei said he received a formal offer from Towson over the holiday break. The offer includes a partial athletic scholarship.

“I got the scholarship papers the day after Christmas,” he said. “I knew it was the right fit from that day.”

Vogelei said he is set to take an official visit to Towson’s Baltimore area campus on Jan. 18. He said he can officially sign his National Letter of Intent either on that visit or in early February.

Vogelei said Towson has projected him as a linebacker at the college level.

“They have a really good coaching staff,” he said. “I really got along with them. They’re an up-and-coming great program. I have a lot of family down there, too.”

Vogelei chose Towson over Colgate, Delaware and Penn.

Towson went 7-4 overall, 6-2 in the CAA last fall.
