Two big wins for Middle in less than 24 hours

The Middle Township High School boys basketball team earned a pair of important road victories in less than 24 hours this weekend.

On Friday, the Panthers topped Hammonton, 55-48, to strengthen their hold on first place in the Cape-Atlantic National Conference.

Then, on Saturday afternoon, Middle pulled away from Holy Spirit to the tune of a 51-34 victory after leading by three points at the half.

On Friday, LaMarr Greer Jr. poured in 23 points, Darrell Shelton added 11 and Tom Catanoso chipped in 10 as Middle improved to 5-0 in conference play while Hammonton fell to 8-3 overall, 3-2 in conference play.

In Saturday’s contest, Middle led 20-17 at the break before outscoring the Spartans 31-17 in the second half in a CAL inter-conference contest. Middle placed four players in double figures in the win, with Catanoso leading the way with 13 points. Greer had 12 and Shelton and Tommy Feraco each added 11.

Middle upped its record to 8-2 overall with Saturday’s win. Spirit fell to 6-3.
