Jess Freeman surpasses 1,000 points

WILDWOOD – Wildwood High School junior Jessica Freeman became the seventh girls basketball player in school history to surpass 1,000 career points Tuesday night.

Freeman, a 5-6 guard/forward, scored 15 points in the Lady Warriors’ rather easy 52-25 victory over Clayton. Freeman, who slightly twisted her ankle while warming up for the game, netted her 1,000th point midway through the first quarter on a free throw.

Freeman, who exited the game with 1,008 points, joins Monica Johnson (3,173 points), Latifah McNeal (1,583), Lana Harshaw (1,516), Shakiyrah Bishop (1,340), Teresa Polini (1,305) and Lisa Schultz (1,071) on the career 1,000-point list at Wildwood.

Senior guard Serena Seijo hit four three-pointers and netted 18 points for Wildwood to lead all scorers in the win.

The Lady Warriors shut out Clayton in the second quarter and led 33-6 at the half.

Wildwood improved to 10-5 with Tuesday’s win, which also accounted for the 598th career victory for Lady Warrior coach Dave Troiano.
