On Saturday afternoon the Ocean City High School girls basketball team plays for a spot in next week’s South Jersey championship game when the Raiders (22-4) host Delsea in the Dixie Howell Gymnasium at 2 p.m.

Ocean City reached Saturday’s semifinal with a 41-25 win over Winslow Township in the quarterfinals. The Raiders broke open a close game with a 19-2 advantage in the third quarter. Julia Duggan scored 18 points, making eight of 14 shots, and grabbed eight rebounds. Freshman Nicole Piergross hit three times from behind the three-point line and finished with 11 points. Katie Johnson had four steals and eight assists and Natalie Landi grabbed six rebounds and blocked two shots.

The winner of the Saturday game between Ocean City and Delsea will play for the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 3 championship on Monday. If the Raiders win, the game will be in Ocean City against either defending champion Seneca or Timber Creek.

Paul Baruffi’s teams have reached the South Jersey final in five of the last seven seasons, winning championships in 2011, 2009 and 2008.
