Cape Tech, Wildwood advance in Warrior Classic

WILDWOOD – The seventh annual Warrior Classic Baseball Tournament opened Thursday at Maxwell Field with four of the five tournament teams in action. Cape May Tech and Wildwood each won opening-round games. The following are recaps of the two opening games:

Cape May Tech 14, Wildwood Catholic 7: Steve Bond, Chris Russ, Hunter Tomlin and Robert Edmunds each posted two hits and Paul Edmunds went 1 for 3 with three RBI as the Hawks slugged their way past the Crusaders. Tomlin, Will Winter and Shane Adams each posted two RBI for Cape Tech, which will play top-seeded Middle Township Friday evening at 7 in a winners’ bracket game. Kevin Laffey and Garrett Moretti each had two hits and two RBI for Wildwood Catholic.

Wildwood 16, Lower Cape May 2 (5 inn.): Matt Bolle went 3 for 3 with two doubles and two RBI and Anthony Korobellis added a hit and five RBI to pace the Warriors, who exploded for 14 runs over the game’s first three innings. Every Wildwood starter had at least one hit. Brendan Bean and Chris Mormile each scored four runs. Bolle threw three shutout innings for the victory on the mound. Bradley Fournier hit a two-run single in the loss. Lower Cape May will face Wildwood Catholic in a losers’ bracket game Friday afternoon at 4. The winner of that game remains alive in the tournament.
