BRIDGET RUSKEY Middle Township High School freshman Bridget Ruskey, fresh off a record-setting first high school season, has been selected to participate for Team New Jersey in the 2014 Brine National Lacrosse Classic scheduled for June 30-July 3 in Boyds, Md.

The Brine National Lacrosse Classic features many of the top high school lacrosse players in the country at one venue, where regional teams compete to become the 2014 national champion. The tournament includes practices, games, seminars and other activities for all players. Scores of college lacrosse coaches from every division are expected to attend.

Team New Jersey is made up of some of the top high school girls lacrosse players on track to graduate in 2017.

“I’m looking forward to it because it’s something I’ve never done before,” Ruskey said. “It’ll be good to meet new players and have different coaches teach me new things.”

Ruskey was selected for Team New Jersey based on her performance at a regional tryout held in early May at Monmouth University.

“I feel like I competed (well) with the other girls,” said Ruskey, who had attended an earlier tryout in March but was not selected. “After I didn’t make it the first time, I was real excited to make it this time.”

Ruskey helped Middle Township to the best season in program history this spring. She scored 112 goals – a Cape-Atlantic League record for a freshman – and added 38 assists for a Lady Panther team that won the CAL title and finished 20-1 overall.
