Ron and Midge Grunstra, Bob and Kathleen Dusz, Patricia and Ed Devlin and Susy and Burt Wilkins enjoy Rotary Spring Fling. Ron and Midge Grunstra, Bob and Kathleen Dusz, Patricia and Ed Devlin and Susy and Burt Wilkins enjoy Rotary Spring Fling. The Rotary Club of Ocean City-Upper Township held its 18th annual 50-50 raffle at the Greate Bay Country Club. Originally called the Fall Fling, it was changed to the Snow Ball last year when it was moved to January after Hurricane Sandy wiped it out. This year the Snow Ball was postponed due a burst pipe flooding the country club, moving the raffle to March 28 and thus being called the “Spring Fling.”

Garden Club and Exchangettes meet in January in Ocean City

Around our town with Cathy Finnegan Around our town with Cathy Finnegan

The Ocean City Garden Club postponed their luncheon meeting for a week due to extreme cold weather only to have it rain the next week when I arrived at the Episcopal church.

I caught up with Barbara Welden sporting a unique rain hat to keep her hair dry while this columnist opted for an umbrella. Joanne Romano greeted me when I arrived and Jeanne Robinson took my coat and pointed out my seat at her table. When I complimented Jeanne on the snowmen decorations on the dessert table, she admitted she got them at CVS and Rite Aid.

Ozzie and Sue Jordan, Don and Andrea Paul and Cathy and Jim Finnegan show off their St. Patrick’s Day attire. Twas the wearing of the green and the eight inches of snow that fell in South Jersey didn’t deter a crowd from gathering at the Tuckahoe Inn to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. The Exchange Club brought their favorite ladies to their dinner meeting that night. Andrea Paul and this columnist staked out a table in the dining room then joined our husbands in the lounge to enjoy the social hour.  Warren Iredell and Bill Culp told me the Exchange Club has resurrected their Shrimp and Beef Night that will be held April 26 at the Seaville Fire Hall. I almost didn’t recognize Ron Denney who sported a green plaid tam with red hair and a mustache to the party. Frank McCall, who wore a cream color hand knit sweater he got when visiting Ireland in 2005, liked Ron’s hat so much that Ron gave Frank an extra one he brought with him. David Powell gave these guys a run for their money in his tall green and white stripe Cat in the Hat style hat.
