Additional tax assistance events for Sandy victims

Two additional free tax assistance outreach events for those who suffered damage or disruption in their lives due to Hurricane Sandy have been added in Monmouth and Atlantic counties.

The first event will be held 5-7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 7 at the Ventnor branch of the Atlantic County Library, 6500 Atlantic Ave.

A total of 11 outreach assessment events are being held around the state during February and March to help individuals and businesses prepare their 2012 tax returns. The events have been organized by the New Jersey Treasury Department’s Division of Taxation. The events are also being supported by the AARP’s Tax-Aide program and the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. 

Experts will be available to assist residents on how to report Sandy-related personal and business losses on their federal and New Jersey tax returns, how to deal with property tax issues caused by Sandy-related damage and how to recover lost tax documents or reconstruct lost personal or business records and many other topics.
