Buffett firm buys The Press of Atlantic City

BH Media, the publishing arm of Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway, has purchased The Press of Atlantic City, according to an announcement released today (Thursday, July 18) on the newspaper’s website.

BH Media Group operates 68 newspapers and other titles in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Florida, Texas, Iowa, Nebraska and Oklahoma, according to its website, providing news, information and entertainment in print and online.

According to The Press' account of the sale, the new publisher will be Mark Blum, publisher of the Morning News in Florence, S.C., and the new ownership is expected to take over from the current owner, Abarta, in August, said interim Publisher James W. Hopson. No announcement was made as to the purchase price.

The Bitzer/Taylor family, which owns Abarta, has owned The Press since 1951, the announcement stated. 

Berkshire Hathaway is headquartered in Omaha, Neb.
