Info sessions planned for Cape May County residents on Hazard Mitigation grants

The Department of Community Affairs is encouraging the public to apply for Hazard Mitigation grants, which can provide up to $30,000 of reimbursement for primary, single-family homeowners to elevate, by offering assistance with applications.

DCA staff will be at three Cape May County locations next week to answer questions and help residents with applications: 6 p.m. Sept. 9 at Lower Township Town Hall, 2600 Bayshore Road in Lower Township; 6 p.m. Sept. 10 at Ocean City Free Public Library, 1735 Simpson Ave. in Ocean City; and 6 p.m. Sept. 12 at Avalon Community Hall, 3001 Avalon Ave. in Avalon.

According to the DCA, a home does not need to have been damaged in Hurricane Sandy to be eligible for the grant. There are no income restrictions and FEMA registration is not necessary. The deadline to apply is Sept. 15. See www.renewjerseystronger.org or call 1-855-SANDY-HM.
