Children’s classes planned at Nature Center

CAPE MAY — The New Jersey Audubon has announced that special programs for children will resume at the Nature Center of Cape May this month with an added new offering.

Taught by local artist and popular art educator Janet Payne, these programs for the pre-school set have been known to fill up quickly, according to the organization. Center Direct Gretchen Whitman encourages parents to call to reserve a spot.

The Mommy and Me children’s program runs 10 to 11 a.m. Fridays through May 9, for ages 2 to 4, and are designed to engage the curious naturalists-to-be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or grandparent.  The classes will focus on a different aspect of nature each week with stories, songs, crafts, activities, outdoor experiences, and fun. 

Adult participation is required, as is preregistration.

The cost per class is $5 for members, $7 for nonmembers.

Also planned is “Art for Little Hands,” 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., also set to run each Friday.

This is a new program for those 3 to 5 is designed to for that first exploration of art and to “let them get messy and have some fun,” reads a statement from organizers. Each week, particiants look at a famous work of art, and create their own masterpieces.

“We will focus on colors, shapes, size and textures, while strengthening fine motor skills with a variety of activities including cutting, tearing, gluing, painting, drawing and sculpture,” reads a statement from organizers. Preregistration is required.

The cost is $10 a class for members, $13 for non-members.

Country Shore Women’s Club presents ‘Peter Pan’

The Country Shore Women’s Club will present the play “Peter Pan” March 6-9 at the Upper Township Elementary School, 50 Old Tuckahoe Road in Marmora. The play will feature women from the club and their children.

All show proceeds will benefit local community service organizations. Show times are 7 p.m. March 6-8 and 2 p.m. March 9. Tickets are $7.
