LINWOOD—The Miss America Organization is in high gear getting ready to welcome 53 of the most beautiful and talented women in the country to Atlantic City in just a few days and they have added another opportunity for friends and fans of the pageant to see the contestants.
New this year is the Miracle Mile Walk and Steel Pier Celebration set for Friday, September 12.
The Miracle Mile Walk will begin in front of Boardwalk Hall and the participants, including the Miss America contestants will head down the Boardwalk to the Steel Pier where a celebration is set to take place.
Sharon Pearce, President of the Miss America Organization said they are very excited about adding the Miracle Walk to the events leading up to the pageant. As the contestants finish their rehearsal Friday evening for the pageant the girls will head outside Boardwalk Hall to Kennedy Plaza and that is where the walk will begin.
“We wanted to do something that supports a great cause, and Children’s Miracle Networks is such a wonderful organization with many hospitals across the country. Miss America is the ambassador to the Children’s Miracle Network and she visits hospitals and spends time with children in every state. CMN is making miracles happen for children and their families every single day and we are so happy to be able to help support that cause,” said Pearce.
The president of the organization added that the hope is the inaugural walk will build a sense of camaraderie with the fans and the contestants. “The Boardwalk is such a beautiful setting and the walk from Boardwalk Hall to the Steel Pier; about 1.3 miles and we think it will be a great lead-in to the Show us your Shoes Parade the following evening,” said Pearce.
Online registration for the walk is open to the public, with early registration through Sept. 8. Registration fee includes a commemorative T-shirt, a finish-line party and unlimited rides at historic Steel Pier. By registering, participants can also set a monetary goal and ask friends and family to support their fundraising efforts for both the Miss America Scholarship Program and its official national platform, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
The cost to participate in the Miracle Mile Walk and Steel Pier Celebration is $55 if you register online by Sept. 8 and $65 if you register after that date and up to the day of the event. The Miracle Mile Walk and the Steel Pier Celebration are presented by AtlantiCare and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
At the Steel Pier there will be a presentation of awards and among them is Team Spirit-that will go to the team with the most walkers. Team Heart-that will go to the team that receives the highest donation amount. Crown Jewel-That will go to the individual that raised the highest donation amount and Most Decorated-That award will go to the team that has the best themed outfits.
