In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, I'd like to thank Linda Gilmore of the Atlantic County Public Information Office for her responsiveness during the storm.

I emailed the county, alarmed that I couldn't return to Brigantine to check on pets I couldn't evacuate. While it could be argued that stranded pets are the least of the county's worries during a hurricane, Linda responded quickly and reassuringly to all my emails,

even at night. It was very comforting to know someone cared.
