Time to move on

To the editor:
First and foremost, I’d like to thank our first responders in public safety and our public works department for their impressive professionalism in handling Hurricane Sandy and its aftermath. I’m proud to have each and every one of these individuals as part of our municipal family.

Unfortunately, even in these catastrophic times, we have political contrarians who enjoy being obstinate no matter what. I supported our citizens’ right to petition, and together we fought the fight that eventually changed state law and allowed all Walsh Act governments in the state, not only Margate, the right to petition. The building department referendum did not pass; however, our residents had the opportunity to speak and I respect their decision. It’s now time for all of us to move on.

Once again, a heartfelt thank you to our police, fire, public works and City Hall team for their tireless Hurricane Sandy efforts.

Mayor Mike Becker
