To the editor:
Now that the election is a month behind us, I wanted to take the opportunity to thank the voters of Atlantic County for the honor of electing me to serve as freeholder at large. A quick glance at election results across the county shows that the ticket-splitting was at an all-time high. This sends a strong message that Atlantic County voters reject partisan bickering and demand elected leaders who will work together, regardless of party, in the best interest of the public. I was a beneficiary of the ticket splitting phenomenon, winning Republican-controlled towns such as Hamilton and Galloway Townships, and I received the voters’ message loud and clear. I promise to obey the voters’ call and to work with elected officials at all levels of government and from all political perspectives to make Atlantic County a better place to live – for everyone.
To be clear, this is does not mean I will be a rubberstamp. I will not compromise my values, and I will ask tough questions and speak out when I believe the wrong decisions are being made. Voters want elected officials who fight for what is right, not who fight for partisan advantage.
Atlantic County faces many difficult challenges – from improving the economy to post-Sandy rebuilding to addressing the Airport Circle debacle. It may be difficult, but if we work together I know the people of Atlantic County will persevere. When I officially take office on Jan. 2, I pledge my full cooperation to everyone who shares these important goals.
I will not lose sight of the fact that I work for you. Please call, write or email me with any issues or concerns you have with county government. I will answer. Thank you again, I look forward to serving as your freeholder.
Colin G. Bell
