Resolve to make a difference in 2013

To the editor:

Before getting caught up in another fad, like joining a health club or starting a diet, why not make a New Year’s resolution you can really live with? Start by focusing on a greater goal. You will be more likely to stay motivated and committed.

Most people make resolutions that deal with the physical world around us. Why not make a resolution that focuses on the spiritual world within?

Here are a few suggestions:

Love – make a friend, give more hugs, smile more, offer a kind word, and call someone you haven’t spoken with in a while.

Help – lighten the load by doing a chore that another typically may handle themselves, help a neighbor, volunteer, teach, lend an ear or create a care package.

Share – share wisdom, time, talents, tools, food, clothes, random act of kindness and financial support for struggling individuals or perhaps a local charity.

Places to get involved: your neighborhood, church, school, convalescent center, or right here at the Rescue Mission. Talk with our volunteer coordinator to see how you can get involved.

Be creative with your goal and remember that to be an inspiration for others, it has to inspire you.

Make 2013 a different world for others – you'll have an eternity to look back on it.
