To the editor:
CNN video reports that a deer crashed through the window of a middle school on Jan. 7. How is it that a deer is able to crash through a glass window in a school building? What kind of glass is being used in our school buildings?
The video is interesting because it shows a teacher with what looks like an assault weapon pointing at the deer to subdue it. A history teacher at the school called a family member to bring his tranquilizer gun as students recorded the events. The video shows no police on the scene; only the history teacher pointing the tranquilizer gun into the school window aimed at the deer.
Does anyone else get the irony not even one month after the third deadliest attack on our schools in our nation's history? What would be the protocol for dealing with a wild animal in a classroom? Is there safety glass in those windows? A deer seeing his reflection in the window evidently was able to compromise the integrity of the school by jumping through a window. Hmm.
