GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP – Three Cape May County high school wrestlers won championships and five others place second or third at the District 32 Tournament held this weekend at Absegami High School.
All eight wrestlers will advance to the Region 8 Tournament at Egg Harbor Township High School.
Middle Township enjoyed a record-setting tournament, producing two champions and two third-place finishers, marking the first time the program will send as many as four wrestlers to regions. In addition, the championships won by Dylan Mooers (182 pounds) and Brandon Belger (220) marked the first time Middle has earned two titles at the same district tournament.
Lower Cape May’s Cory Damiana, just a sophomore, was the third local champion, winning at 195 pounds.
Lower Cape May’s Zach Valcarce (113) and Ocean City’s Cooper Gallagher (170) each lost championship bouts in their respective weight classes to place second.
And winning consolation final bouts to finish third and advance to regions were Middle’s Ronrya Harris (113) and Joe Johnston (195), Lower’s Jimmy Hall (182) and Ocean City’s Josh Johnson (Hwt.).
