ABSECON - The Holy Spirit girls basketball team earned an important victory on Thursday, Feb. 9. The Spartans' defense swarmed Millville this evening, forcing 31 turnovers in a 49-38 win.
With the victory, Holy Spirit (15-4, 14-1 in league) clinches a No. 1 seed in the South Jersey Non-Public playoff bracket. The Spartans have already locked down the Cape-Atlantic American Conference championship and a spot in the CAL postseason tournament.
Sophomore guard Summer Crilley led Holy Spirit with 13 points, five assists and four steals. Spartans junior Val Garofolo added 12 points and five steals in the winning effort.
Holy Spirit defeated Millville in their first matchup of the season which came on Jan. 13. The Spartans beat the Thunderbolts on the road, 66-44.
Thursday night's result sets up a pivotal matchup with Middle Township on Saturday afternoon at the Future Star's Shootout at the Shore event, hosted by Mainland Regional. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:45.
