Spc. Robert H. Basco, Jr. of the 1-114th Infantry Regiment of the New Jersey Army National Guard was recently visited by his family and The Gazette. Basco is shown above with Emily Maxlowe of North Cape May at Fort Bliss, Texas. Below is his father, Robert H. Basco, Sr. and mother Christine, both of Villas. Basco is currently serving overseas and is scheduled to return in May of 2015.

Billy Haas of Ocean City and Jim McKinley of Seaville traveled with The Gazette 75 miles southeast of Ocean City to the Wilmington Canyon where they caught an 182 pound bigeye tuna.

The Gazette recently traveled to Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. with Bailey Reading (left) and Maddie Greaser, who are both seniors at Ocean City High School. The students took part in a nine-day American Sign Language program at the college this summer. They are standing in front of a statue of Alice Cogswell and Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet, a renowned American pioneer in the education of the deaf. Founded in 1864 by Gallaudet's son, Gallaudet University is recognized as the first college for the deaf.

Seeing Penn State play in Ireland Seeing Penn State play in Ireland Gayle and Harry Ackerman of Galloway Township traveled with their sons Tim and Scott on a week long trip to Ireland, culminating with the Penn State vs. University of Central Florida football game played at Croke Park Stadium in Dublin, Ireland. Tim and Scott are both graduates of Penn State University.

Surprise visit to California Surprise visit to California Janis M. Rothermel of Longport made a surprise visit to her cousin, Bob Rothermel and his wife, Gerrie, at their home in San Luis Obispo, California for her birthday.  The surprise and visit were a great success, but unfortunately the Oakhurst Junction fire cut the trip to Yosemite short after three hours. So instead they visited The John Steinbeck National Museum in Salinas as well as time in Monterey and San Jose.

Cruising the Caribbean Cruising the Caribbean Joe and Toni Nenichka of Mays Landing celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary aboard the Royal Caribbean ship Explorer of the Sea for a nine day cruise. The ship docked at King's Wharf, Bermuda; St. Maarten; San Juan, Puerto Rico and Labadee, Haiti before returning to Bayonne. Here they are pictured with The Current in San Juan. It was a great trip but it is always good to be back home.

Completing the Bike MS Mason-Dixon Challenge Completing the Bike MS Mason-Dixon Challenge Robert Murphy of Egg Harbor Township and Jonathan Sanchez of Egg Harbor City take a break with The Current during the Bike MS Mason-Dixon Challenge where they rode their bicycles through the mountains around Gettysburg, PA, including parts of the battlefield. This event is a bicycling fund raiser for the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. They raised over $600 to help ‘create a world free of MS.’
